Horizon Forbidden West Release Date

This is not meant to be a surprise, but officially, Guerrilla Games has delayed the release of Horizon Forbidden West until February 18th, 2022. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had already released a statement about the delay in July, and this has now resorted to Sony not having a first-party title releasing this holiday 2021.

Talking about the reasons for the delay, the Game Director Mathijs de Jonge in his statement said “it’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic,” in a PlayStation blog post. “We have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance.”

Having confirmed the release date to be February 18, 2022, pe-orders have already begun since September 2, 2021. Other important information will soon be released concerning the pre-order. Horizon Forbidden West will be the latest release after the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn which was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Subsequently, an Enhanced Performance patch update has also been released for Horizon Zero Dawn. The improved update brings a targeted 60fps to the game on the PlayStation 5 for the purpose of buttery-smooth gameplay. Interestingly, Patch 1.53 is now live and will be automatically updated to those who already have the game installed.

Horizon Forbidden West also joins other games from PlayStation Studios that will be delayed until 2022, God of War sequel has already been delayed, even Gran Turismo 7. Sony released a 14 minutes Horizon Forbidden West Gameplay in May and the game will be launched on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
