WHAT IS MATURITY?

At my younger age, all my thoughts about maturity was that it is about age and physical development, but oops! I was incredibly wrong. In the recent years, I have grown to find out that age is only but a number, what maturity entails is far beyond age, size or physical development as many would have defined it.

But the questions that are popularly asked about maturity are; what is maturity? What is the best definition of maturity? What are the signs of maturity? How to become responsible. Does maturity depends on age? Some even ask at what age maturity comes?.

Sometimes we cannot really say that there is a particular meaning of maturity. Maturity comes with different definitions and perspectives from different point of view from different people. 

Why is Maturity Important?

Over the years, there have been some curiosity over the Importance of Maturity. Questions have been asked severally about the Essence of Maturity, Does Maturity Come With Experience? Before I continue let me ask you, Do We Need Maturity?

Maturity is important because maturity improves the ability to make good decisions. When you start making good decisions, you begin to have stability in your overall life. Maturity also makes you have your independent decisions. Gone are those days where you ask people to make decisions for you all because you are scared of committing blunders in your decision.

Maturity helps you to think outside the box, which is also thinking beyond the norm.

It is common in among people when you hear them say things like "Grow up", "Level up", "You need to start thinking like an adult" among many others. These have led to some people thinking and asking themselves questions like "How Do I Gain Maturity?", "How can I be Responsible?" "How Does a Mature Person Behave?" These and many more unending questions about maturity. 

Below are some of the ways that shows your Level of Maturity. 

  • Be a goal setter - Mature and responsible people set goals, without setting goals, it might be difficult to achieve what you are aiming for.
  • Have self control - Learning how to control your emotions and actions is a sign of maturity. Do not allow your emotions to control your actions.
  • Be persistent - It takes commitment and persistence to be mature and responsible. Life is not a sprint, life is a marathon race. Don't stop, keep pushing, go for it and avoid distractions.
  • Respect other people's opinions i.e. let's other people's opinions count. Even if you don't agree with their opinion, acknowledge that you heard them and appreciate their opinion. This shows you are open minded and mature.
  • Build your self confidence - Be confident in whatever you are doing, never allow any down-talk or discouragement from anyone. Never underestimate who and what you are and love yourself for who you are.
  • Talk less and listen more - Having conversation with people is not supposed to be competitive, the more you listen, the more you have greater understanding.
  • Take ownership - Take full responsibility of your failure, don't put the blame on others, recognize your failure as an opportunity to grow better and bigger, this will definitely give you a right attitude and teach you how to become a stronger person in life.
  • Run away from negativity - Positivity will give you a great push and help you get through difficult situations and overcome different life obstacles that comes your way. 
  • Be sacrificial in your doings - Being mature is being sacrificial, make sacrifices for the good of other people, make sacrifices for the sake of your future without resentment. This shows your level of maturity. 
  • Give back to others your time, knowledge or effort. This shows that you have attained a level where you can shift focus from yourself to others.
